We will be playing a fundraiser this Saturday night for our good friends the Wildwood Sisters who are raising money to produce their first demo CD. It’s a great cause and a night of great music. Their email announcement follows:

Please come and ring in the New Year with the Wildwood Sisters this Saturday, January 8 for an evening of drinks, hors d’oeuvres and music to help support our efforts to *make a demo* in 2011! We are excited to announce that we will be playing a daytime set as part of this fall’s DUMBO Arts Festival. During the weekend of September 24th-26th DUMBO is taken over by live music, dance, street art, gallery openings, amazing food and pedestrian streets.

On Saturday, September 25th, the Strung Out String Band will be playing from 3pm to 4pm on Jan Bell‘s Curated Stage where we will be sharing the bill with a number of amazing bands playing all types of Americana inside the historic Tobacco Warehouse which is part of Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park.

We recommend spending the morning walking the streets and spending your afternoon listening to amazing music while gazing at the Manhattan skyline over the East River.

Oh, lest we forget, everything is Free.

Here’s a simple question: If you could combine any three things to make a perfect summer afternoon, what would they be? Might, red meat, old time music and an idyllic island in New York harbor be your answer? Well, it is ours.

The Strung Out String Band has been asked to play old time fiddle tunes at the annual gathering of New York carnivores known as Meatopia. Let me repeat that in case you missed it – Meatopia!!!! What is this mythical place named after the best food on Earth? It’s a gathering of 30+ top chefs and BBQ teams BBQ’ing for one unforgettable summer day on Governor’s Island. Here’s what they say on their website:

Meatopia: BBQ NYC is a food festival focusing and supporting the local community with walk-around tastings, custom SixPoint “Meatopia” brew, bourbon, and live bluegrass.

Metopia goes down on Sunday, July 11th. Here’s what we suggest. Starting on July 10th don’t eat anything at all – just listen to old Americana on your gramophone (you do have one, right?). Then, hop on the water taxi to Meatopia and fill that empty belly with beer, meat, music, and more meat.

This event ain’t free folks. Meat costs money. BBQ sauce takes time to prepare. Beer needs to be brewed. Buy your tickets and find out more info at Meatopia.org.

We are glad to announce that we will be taking part in Make Music New York on June 21st. In this wonderful annual event the good people at city hall give permits to any band who wants to play live on the streets with the hope that every nook and cranny of our great Gotham will be filled with music from dawn to dusk.

The Strung Out String Band will be playing at a stage in DUMBO set up at the end of Jay St. down by the water in front of 68 Jay St. Bar. We will be joined on the stage by great acts including Jan Bell and Baby Gramps.

We will be playing two sets, one at 6pm and another at 9:30ish.

Take time during the day to listen to music wherever you find yourself in NY on June 21st and make sure to hop down to DUMBO in the evening to hear us and a number of other great bands.

This Friday night the Strung Out String Band will be playing old timey music at the Roots Cafe in the ever hipsterifying South Park Slope, Brooklyn. We’ll be strumming on banjos, singin’ murder ballads, and pretending that it’s 1928 starting at 9:30 and playing one exceedingly long set that will end at 10:30pm.

Oh, for all of you who love skinny jeans, ironic beards, tattoos of states, and love the low life – I’ve been told that the good people at the Cafe pass out free PBR (For the uninitiated – Pabst Blue Ribbon).

While we love playing music venues with assigned seating, private parties for corporate big-wigs, and letting loose on grungy bar stages, nothing fires us up more than taking to the streets and busking for good will, tips, and the hope of turning people on to old time music. This Saturday, May 15th, we will be setting up shop at the oh, so popular Brooklyn Flea Market.

If you haven’t yet visited the Brooklyn Flea, it is more than just a collection of vendors selling the same crap you see all over the city. It’s a unique flea experience topped off with some of the best food vendors in the city (mmmm, papusa or lobster roll anyone?).

We’ll be setting up shop in sun starting around 2pm and playing till we drop. Hope to see you there.
